It happened for the first time

When Ryan and I told Violet we wouldn't authorize an Amazon purchase the other night, we got the first 'I HATE YOU' and door slam.

Ugh.

I didn't expect this until the teen years. She'll be 10 in October.

Are we ready for this?! Hold my beer.

And then I stumbled upon THIS BLOGPOST from Cup of Jo with some excellent words of wisdom.

There is nothing Violet could do or say to make me stop loving her. I know that in the years to come, she will be a victim and I will feel the need to rescue her from whatever villain. But I think it's important for her to feel her feelings and let her know we are here for her. The heart is a muscle and it requires regular exercise, right?
