HEADSHOTS & PERSONAL BRANDING
A DIY guide to prepare yourself before you're seen in the world...
HAIR & NAILS
Time to schedule your appointments to have your hair cut/colored and a fresh manicure. Neutral and natural nails photograph best.
MAKE UP
Professional hair & make up is an optional add-on for $100 per person. Consider it! It really takes the stress away. If you plan to do your own make up, please skip any products with shimmer and avoid bronzer (it can make your face look dirty on-camera) Go a little heavier on your eye make up than your day-to-day and a neutral lip photographs best. Blemishes? don't worry - photoshop exists for a reason : )
SKIN
If you don't usually get spray tans, you can skip it! This is no time for experimentation. But if you're accustomed to them already, go for it.
REST
Get your beauty rest! It's a thing. And drink plenty of water so you feel fresh and at your best.
WHAT to WEAR
This is a biggie. So it has its own section below. Read on, friend.
What to bring
Bring 5-7 different looks and we'll narrow it down together based on any branding colors and emotions you want to stir up. I will have a steamer available if any garments need a touch up.
What to Wear
Wardrobe is probably the most stressful part of planning for your portraits. But I got you! Read my blogpost on color messaging.
now that you know what colors...
Let's chat about specifics. Maybe you have a designated 'work shirt.' That's cool for a couple shots, but what about the rest of your images? I say bring whatever makes sense for your profession and we'll go through the lot together and narrow it down. It's better to bring too much than not enough.
Do you own your own business? You should dress like a CEO. Think structure and clean lines ie. a blazer and nothing flowy or loose. Or dress for the job you want, and not the job you have.
Are you a worm farmer? Then wear your best work jeans and a clean shirt.
Bottomline: Dress like you, but the most polished version.
Fit
Crucial. Your clothes should fit you to perfection. Try on that sports coat after you brush the dust off. Choose pieces that flatter your body type - and FACT: if you're carrying a few extra lbs, more fitted clothing is actually preferred. I got you, Boo, with posing and lighting to slim. No one looks good in a garbage sack.
Underwear
Be sure to bring the appropriate undergarments (I'm talking to you, lady, with the black bra under the white tank)
Once you're in studio...
